#Jesus Is… #Devotional Thought

Jesus is ___.

Today’s devotional thought originally appeared in a bi-weekly column I write for our local newspaper, the Clipper, this past week.

If you were to fill in the blank, how would you finish that statement? Jesus is___? To some, he was simply a good teacher who lived in Israel 2,000 years ago. To others, a curse word they utter when life gets hard. Regardless of how you would respond, there’s no denying it: Jesus is the most influential person who ever walked the Earth.

There was a Jewish rabbi who met Jesus one day in the first century AD – several years after Jesus had been raised from the dead – and this Pharisee asked Him, “Who are you, Lord?” That question became the driving force and passion behind his entire life. The man? Saul of Tarsus, who would later become Paul the Apostle, who wrote two thirds of the New Testament.

Paul later wrote: “For my determined purpose is that I may know Him, that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him…” (Philippians 3:10, Amplified).

But who was Jesus… really?

To answer that question, we would do well to turn to His Book – the Holy Bible. The Bible, the Word of God, reveals to us who Jesus is. Here we learn that Jesus is our Good Shepherd who loves us and cares for us. He is the friend of sinners. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Gracious, Healer and Provider. And He is our Joy.

Do you need more joy in your life? To know Jesus is to know abundant joy. Seek Him today!
