Getting Ready for God

Getting Ready For God:

thirsty

“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.” (Psalm 63:1-8).

The above Psalm has been the cry of my heart for the past couple of months—perhaps even longer. I am so hungry and desperate for more of God in my life personally, and also in the life of my personal family and my church family. I remember one time when I had the opportunity to preach this message to the congregation at Bible Fellowship, challenging them to get ready for God, and we had an amazing time in God’s presence. What a joy it was to see many people respond to the message and come to the altar, pouring out their hearts before the Lord, and seeking Him in prayer! Today, I want to challenge you to seek the Lord with all of your heart as well. Don’t be content to just be religious or do good works. There’s so much more to the Christian life than these things. What an awesome inheritance that God has given to us as His children, that we have been invited to have a personal and an intimate friendship with Him, the King of the Universe. Allow me to share a few thoughts from this Scripture today, and may they encourage and challenge your heart to seek the Lord in your own life as well.

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Is this not pure joy? God is MY God! He is not just the God of the Universe, but He is the God of my heart and my life! In today’s dark and depraved wilderness of a world, many people are spiritually dry and thirsty, but there is a place where we can go to be refreshed—the presence of the Lord. When we come into God’s presence through prayer, seeking Him with all of our hearts, He pours out His rivers of living water upon us, and we are refreshed, renewed and strengthened. If you hunger and thirst after God, you won’t be disappointed!

So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Why do you go to church on Sunday mornings? Is it to sing songs, hear a sermon, or visit with other Christians? If so, then you’re missing out on one of the greatest blessings made available to us—to see His power and glory, to see the Lord Himself! The next time you go to church, don’t go just to hear a sermon about Him, but go to meet with Him!

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Is there anything more wonderful and precious that the Lord’s lovingkindness? I can’t think of anything that is. His love is better than life itself to me, and that’s why I praise Him. That’s why I bless Him and lift up my hands in His name, because He’s been so good to me. Have you tasted and seen for yourself that the Lord is good? Oh! That you would know Him personally and intimately, and that you would never be the same again. Listen to the words the Psalmist uses to describe an intimate relationship with the Lord—a satisfied soul, joyful lips, and much rejoicing. Let’s choose today to follow hard after God—to seek Him with all of our hearts. Let’s remember the Lord, let’s meditate on His Word and His goodness, and get ready for God. Bless the Lord!
