You‘re God‘s FAVOURITE:
“When the king smiles, there is life; his favor refreshes like a gentle rain.” (Proverbs 16:15).
If you are a Christian, then you are God’s favourite! Do you believe that? If you do, do you understand the significance of that statement? The word favourite means, “preferred above all others and treated with partiality; “the favoured child”; a special loved one; something regarded with special favour or liking.” In God’s book, YOU are preferred above all others and treated with partiality – the favoured child. You are God’s special loved one. He regards you with special favour. He LIKES you. Forget all the self-help seminars and self-esteem workbooks, who needs them? You can positively confess yourself “healthy, happy and wise” until you’re blue in the face, but that won’t make a lick of difference in the real world – you need a revelation of the Father’s love.
I am God’s favourite. He loves and accepts me. That means that I am special, I am important, I am valuable, I am significant. Why? Not because of anything within me, but because of WHO is within me. I’m special, important, valuable and significant because God’s Spirit lives within me – the Spirit of adoption. “So you should not be like cowering, fearful slaves. You should behave instead like God’s very own children, adopted into his family – calling him “Father, dear Father.” For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:15-16).
First John 3:1 says, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God.” In other words, take a look at, or see, how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he calls us His children. ” Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured out on us because we belong to his dearly loved Son.” (Eph. 1:4-6).
Some of you might be wondering why I’ve brought up this topic for the second time this month, after another similar words of encouragement,”I’m a Child of the King.” I remember when I was a youth pastor at Bible Fellowship. There was one Sunday morning, where our pastor Steve Witmer was preaching on The Father’s Blessing, and it was an encouraging reminder of the awesome privilege of being God’s children. May the knowledge that you are God’s favourite refresh your life today.
Today, I want to finish off this devotional with this prayer for you, “asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people. I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him.” (Ephesians 1:17-19).
