Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts:
“God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God’s generosity can flow through you. Are you called to be a speaker? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Are you called to help others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then God will be given glory in everything through Jesus Christ. All glory and power belong to him forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:10-11).
The church I pastor, Beausejour Community Church, has a specific purpose:
- We exist to REACH people with the love of God,
- to CONNECT them in loving relationships with other Christians,
- to help them to GROW in their faith through God’s Word,
- to challenge them to DISCOVER their gifts,
- and to GLORIFY God with their lives.
I want to talk to you about discovering your spiritual gifts…
The Bible says that God has given spiritual gifts to EVERYONE – and that includes YOU. Not only that, but He wants you to manage them well, so His generosity can flow through you. Everyone has a different gift or ability – something that they can do well – but the point is, whatever your gift is, use it in the strength and energy that God supplies, so God will be given glory. Here’s another passage in the Bible that talks about some of the different spiritual gifts.
“God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it. If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.” (Romans 12:6-8). Again, you see that the Bible tells us that God has given EVERYONE the ability to do something well.
Here’s a brief look at some of the different spiritual gifts that God gives. One of the ways you can discover if you have one of these gifts is if you enjoy doing that particular activity:
- GIVING (SHARING MONEY)
- LEADERSHIP ABILITY
- SHOWING KINDNESS
- WORD OF WISDOM, WORD OF KNOWLEDGE, DISCERNING OF SPIRITS
- FAITH, HEALINGS, MIRACLES, TONGUES, INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES
The Bible says, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7). Don’t be afraid to begin to step out and use your gift for God, to love and serve people, and give glory to God.
